چکیده
In this paper, a detailed mineralogical study on iron-rich spherules in Taihu Lake was carried out, and we present proposed impact-related origin for these spherules. The spherical concretions occur specific silty layer formed around ~7 ka B.P., sandwiched between an upper lacustrine deposit lower hard loess layer, they are widely distributed the most abundant that vicinity of Lake. typically ~0.5 to 3 mm diameter with shape very similar but not exactly rounded have various apparent aerodynamic shapes, such as spherical, cone, spindle, ellipsoidal, elongated pear-shaped morphologies. SEM imaging shows there is no central core concentric layers Iron-rich accretionary lapilli typical colloidal structure angular quartz grains trace fragments clays wrapped fine cements mainly goethite minor carbon particles. nodule-forming mechanism aqueous sediments does sufficiently explain morphology internal features Lake, whereas aerosol formation under airburst impact hypothesis basin may be better explanation unique mineralogy Specifically, plumes could reaction chambers form texture interior, while dense shell semi-plastic morphological can falling processes from higher altitudes plume.

Spatiotemporal characteristics of lake breezes over Lake Taihu, China
Lake Taihu is a shallow lake located in the Yangtze River delta region in eastern China. Lake breezes and their interactions with urban heat islands are of great importance to air quality andweather forecasting. In this study, surface observations at a dense network and Wind Profile Radar measurements were utilized to characterize the lake breezes at Lake Taihu and assess the impact of geophysi...
متن کاملOccurrence and Distribution of Microcystins in Lake Taihu, China
The occurrence and distribution of microcystins were investigated in Lake Taihu, the third largest lake in China. An extensive survey, larger and broader in scale than previous studies, was conducted in summer 2010. The highest microcystin concentration was found at southern part of Taihu, which was newly included in this survey. In northern coastal areas, total cellular concentrations of 20 to...
متن کاملMobility and sulfidization of heavy metals in sediments of a shallow eutrophic lake, Lake Taihu, China.
The technique of DGT (diffusive gradients in thin films) using three diffusive gel thicknesses was applied to estimate the mobility and bioavailability of heavy metals in sediments and porewater of Lake Taihu, China. The DGT results showed significantly positive correlations between Co, Pb, Cd and Mn, and Ni and Fe concentrations in porewater. Cu and Zn showed a significantly negative correlati...
متن کاملEvaluation of fertilizing schemes for direct-seeding rice fields in Taihu Lake Basin, China
Field experiments were performed to identify an effective fertilizing scheme for direct-seeding rice (DSR) fields in the Taihu Lake Basin in east China. Based on local traditions, 3 typical fertilizing schemes (FS-1, FS-2, and FS3) were evaluated, in consideration of ensuring a certain rice yield and relatively low nitrogen (N) loss. The base, seedling, tillering, jointing, and panicle fertiliz...
متن کاملThree-dimensional eutrophication model and application to Taihu Lake, China.
Taihu Lake, the largest freshwater shallow lake in eastern China, has suffered from severe eutrophication over the past two decades. This research developed a three-dimensional eutrophication model to investigate the eutrophication dynamics. The model fully coupled the biological processes and hydrodynamics, and also took into account the effects of sediment release and the external loads from ...
